Institute of Home Economics has an active Communication and Magazine committee which organizes literary debates, slam poetry, quiz, slogan writing, creative writing and poster-making competitions etc. The activities of the society are an integral part of the college festival when inter-college competitions are held.
To commemorate 90 years of martyrdom of our National Icons, several events were organised in the college. A Quiz competition on ‘India’s Journey for Freedom’ was held on 12th March 2021. To celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence, poetry and slogan writing competitions were organized on the theme “Shaheed-e-Vatan” (Martyrs of Nation) on 15th March, 2021. Both these programmes were very successful.
The Inter College Essay Competition was organized as part of the Amrut Mahotsav, at the Institute of Home Economics in the month of August 2021. The topics for essay writing were ‘Digital India – A New India’ and ‘Changing Role of Women in Contemporary India’. the participants had the flexibility to express themselves either in English or Hindi. The competition witnessed diverse views and nuanced understanding of the topics, expressed with lucidity by the students.
The committee continues to expand its reach to achieve its vision of being a truly representative student body. With the onset of the pandemic, we have expanded into the digital world through the inception of blog- IHE Lifafa where we try and engage the college students by publishing their creative content regularly, by continued and rapid reporting about college events. We have expanded into the social media pages through Facebook and Instagram, where we try and engage the college community by publishing their creative content, participate in events such as slam poetry under the event of ‘Panache’ regularly, by organizing competitions, and through continued and rapid reporting about college events.
The Committee also designs the college information booklet which provides information on college, various departments, courses, and procedures for admission.
The team hopes to build on this ethos just as much during the upcoming academic years.
Earlier, the society was also publishing the annual official student-publication, the college magazine ‘Surbhi’.
