Sports

The Institute lays great emphasis on physical fitness of the students and organizes a weekly physical education class for students of all courses. The range of sporting activities includes volleyball; throw ball, kho-kho, athletics, table tennis, yoga, aerobics and badminton. In order to promote a healthy lifestyle the college has set up an air-conditioned gymnasium fully equipped with latest equipment for use by the students and faculty. The students can access this gymnasium in their free time or in the physical education classes under the supervision of the physical educationist. Interested students also receive training in self-defense by trainers from Delhi Police. The Institute has on its rolls a qualified physical educationist who takes care of sports and allied activities. The Annual Sports Day is an exciting event that is organized each year.

 

National Service Scheme

NSS is one of the most active committee of the institution. It works to develop and sensitize young minds to contribute for the welfare of the society. NSS wing carries out several community outreach programmes and also works in collaboration with various organizations such as NAB, Help age India, Muskaan and Manzil. Beside this, students are not only actively engaged in the programmes and campaigns within the college campus but also extend their services through voluntary work in different NGO’s. The staff and students actively participate in various programmes and events organized by the college such as environmental up-gradation programme, tree plantation, campus cleanliness projects, health and nutrition education including demonstrations for the economically weaker sections of society and blood donation camps.

 

Annual Day

The Annual Day of the Institute is celebrated each year in January-February. The annual report of the academic year is presented by the Director of the college. Over the years several eminent personalities have been invited on the annual day. These personalities include the Former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, Former President Gyani Zail Singh, eminent Parliamentarian and former Minister Dr. Karan Singh, eminent scientist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Member Planning Commission Mrs. Syeda Saiyidain Hameed, Vice-Chancellors of the University of Delhi, Prof. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, DG of ICMR to name a few. Meritorious students are awarded special awards and certificates by the college. The award ceremony is followed by an exquisite cultural program.

 

Cultural Activities

Annual Cultural Festival: Feria

The students at the Institute eagerly look forward to their annual cultural festival Feria that symbolizes a splendid fair like event with lots of stalls, fun and frolic. Being a star attraction amongst the students, the festival is marked by different events such as choreography, debates, music, dance competitions, plays, fashion-shows and many more exciting events. Eminent artists, performers and choreographers get involved as they train promising and interested students in choreography, dances and dramatization. The events in Feria are judged by eminent personalities from the fields of art, music, dance, theatre and media. The cultural festival provides a platform to students to showcase their talents and also an opportunity to interact with their counterparts from other colleges and universities.

 

SPICMACAY

The Institute was a member of the SPICMACAY chapter. Renowned artists from the country have given lectures and demonstrations to the students about various facets of Indian classical dance and music at the Institute premises. Over the years, well-known artists such as Padma Bhushan Smt. Teejan Bai, Ustad Aashish Khan Saheb, Pt. Uma Shankar Mishra, Dr. Meeta Pandit and renowned Sufi and Ghazal singer Prof Rita Ganguly have rendered their performances. Workshops on Kalamkari, Calligraphy and Yoga have been successfully organized for select group of under-graduate & post-graduate students under the SPICMACAY banner. It has served to be a platform to imbibe the rich cultural traditions and heritage of our country.

 

Cultural Societies at IHE

In order to discover, develop and promote talent and interest among the students in literary and cultural pursuits, a number of societies are functional in the Institute. Each society has an elected President and Secretary, to look after the affairs of the society under the guidance of faculty members. The elected representatives get a chance to hone their leadership as well as organizational skills. Their role becomes pertinent when they organize the annual cultural festival ‘Feria’.

 

Muzahira

The college has a very active literary and debating society by the title Muzahira, which organizes debates, just-a-minute contests, creative writing, quiz as well as poster making competitions. The society provides a platform to the students to nurture their communication and presentation skills and helps them build confidence and poise. The activities of the society are an integral part of the college festival when inter-college debates and other competitions are held. The society is also responsible for bringing out the annual college magazine ‘Surbhi’ showcasing the writing skills of the student community.

 

 

NAVRANG

The college has long been staging street plays but formally the theatre society of IHE ‘Navrang’ was formed in the year 2012 with the vision of creating a theater culture in the college. In the year 2013, Navrang delivered its second stupendous Street play production by the name “Yeh khel tera nahi, mera hai”which made a buzz in the circuit and left an indelible mark in the University’s street theatre scene. The street play society further evolved in the next two years, bringing out “Surya ki antim kiran se, surya ki pehli kiran tak” in 2014 and “Gustaakhi Maaf” in 2015. Both these plays won accolades at different platforms; notable among those are best Direction, Production and best female actor by Sahitya Kala Parishad, first and second prizes at IIM Rohtak, Lal Bahadur Institute of Management, Jamia Milia Islamia, IMT, DU colleges such as Hindu, Khalsa and Zakir Hussain. The street play was also among the top five finalists at HT Youth Nexus.

 

POISE

The Fashion society of IHE, Poise – symbolizing balance, composure, grace and elegance – has been active for more than two decades. This self made team has perseverance and with the sincere efforts of students and faculty, especially the Department of Fabrics and Apparel Studies, this society has developed a niche for itself in the field of fashion, performing regularly in different festivals in and outside Delhi. It won first prizes at several cultural festivals such as at Lady Hardinge Medical College, Dayal Singh College, Galgotia University and Bhartiya Vidyapeeth.

 

ELEGANZA

It is the dance society of IHE. With the help of rigorous training by expert choreographers throughout the year, the team won second prizes in the current year at IIT Delhi, IMI, NSIT, National Power Training Institute and HT Youth Nexus. The team also got tremendous appreciation at PULSE, the annual culture festival of AIIMS. Besides these, the team performed two flash mobs, one for promoting NDTV and the other for Apple I Phones. The society has made a mark for itself in the cultural scene of DU, promising to continue with its hard work in the near future.

 

 

 

TARKAAS

Tarkaas, as the Music Society of college, in its year of re- establishment, worked on Indian Classical Genre of Music with a composition based on Raag Charukeshi – a raag rarely heard on Competitive Stage in Delhi’s Classical Group Singing Circle. Innumerable hours of riyaaz made Tarkaas stand out in its first year of participation, making it one of the Groups to look out for amongst the likes of already famous Indian Classical Music Societies of University of Delhi. Various accompanying taals such asrupak, addha teen taal, ektaal, teen taal and a to-the-mark sawaljawab on tabla only made this raag of ‘karunras’ even more beautiful. Apart from group performances, Tarkaas also saw its members going in for Solos and getting accolades for the same. The team members have won first prizes at colleges such as PGDAV, Khalsa, GGSIPU, ShriRajguru College of Applied Sciences and Dayal Singh (morning). The first runner up prize has been awarded at Aurobindo College, Maulana Azad Medical College and Hansraj College.

 

IRIDESCENCE

Iridescence, the Arts Society of our college, endeavors to pull off something unique, creative and out of the box each time. The society plans to motivate people through art, make them realize the serenity that art instills in them. The society welcomes twenty-five members each year with great joy and positivity. They practice different art forms like poster making, rangoli making, face painting, shoe painting, sketching/painting, calligraphy, photography and many more. From the beautification of the college during all the programmes in the college to organising numerous competitions during the college’s annual cultural fest- FERIA, the society provides a platform to all the members to showcase their skills.Despite being a very new society (formed in 2015), Iridescence members have participated in numerous competitions till date at the cultural fests of DCAC (DU), Hindu College, Hansraj College and many more colleges. Recently, the new members of the society participated in the Art Fiesta organised by Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (IP University). Garima Gujral of B.Sc. Home Science (Hons) 1st year bagged the second position in pottery making.
