Microbiology also forms the core of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. Recognizing the significance of Microbiology in the industry, agriculture as well as in research, the Institute started an undergraduate course in Microbiology in 1992-93. The course is being offered in only select colleges of University of Delhi and has an intake of 39 students. Each semester offers  theory as well as practical papers which have been designed to equip the students in various aspects of Microbiology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Applied Microbiology and Biochemistry . The course is truly multidisciplinary in nature. From the academic year 2019-20, the department is offering a three years curriculum under CBCS LOCF system

The Department has an active Microbiology Society “MICROCOSMOS” which was started in 1997 .The society is actively engaged in promoting science by holding inter college competitions and seminars by eminent scientists during the department academic festival. Being a part of DBT Star college scheme students visits to various industries and research Institutes, Workshops ,Hands on training sessions, talks by experts in the field of Microbiology and Biotechnology are regularly organised. The students are also encouraged to learn by participating in research project work at the department level.
