On Friday, 8th November 2024, the SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) orientation session was held at the Conference Room of the Institute of Home Economics (IHE), Hauz Khas, New Delhi. Organized by SPIC MACAY volunteers and the Faculty Convener at IHE, the event aimed to introduce students and faculty to the movement’s mission of preserving and promoting Indian classical arts and culture while highlighting the importance of holistic education through the arts.
The program commenced with the arrival and warm welcome of the SPIC MACAY delegation, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp. The IHE SPIC MACAY Chapter President delivered an engaging and heartfelt speech that beautifully captured the history, vision, and objectives of the chapter. Her inspiring words set the tone for the session, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in fostering cultural appreciation on campus.
As a gesture of respect and appreciation, the SPIC MACAY delegation was presented with beautifully crafted pots, symbolizing the connection to Indian traditions and the nurturing of culture. This small but meaningful gift highlighted IHE’s commitment to values deeply rooted in Indian heritage.
The student volunteers from IHE worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth execution of the event. From coordinating with the SPIC MACAY delegation to managing logistics and welcoming attendees, their efforts were instrumental in making the session a success. Their dedication and hard work were evident in every detail, reflecting their passion for promoting Indian culture and ensuring the event’s high standards.
The orientation session featured insightful talks from SPIC MACAY volunteers, offering a detailed overview of the movement’s conceptual framework and its organizational values. Speakers like Shruti Kumari, Manvi Jain, and Gitesh Karki shared their personal experiences, inspiring the audience to connect with their cultural roots. Senior members Mr. Rajiv Giri and Sh. Arun Sahay delivered thought-provoking speeches on SPIC MACAY’s philosophy, vision, and the role of holistic education in nurturing innovation and values.
A key highlight of the event was the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Radhika Bakhshi, Director of IHE, who graced the occasion and interacted with the delegation and students. Her encouraging words underscored the importance of initiatives like SPIC MACAY in shaping a culturally aware and socially responsible student body.
The event also included an interactive Q&A session, where students and faculty engaged actively with the panelists. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by the Faculty Convener, who praised the students’ contributions and the dedication of the SPIC MACAY delegation.
The orientation session was a resounding success, thanks to the inspiring speeches, the thoughtful gesture of presenting pots, the hard work of student volunteers, and the enthusiastic participation of the IHE community.
