Eminence- the Placement Committee of the Institute of Home Economics

The placement committee of the Institute of Home Economics, ‘Eminence’ aims to sensitize, motivate and enable students to achieve good student progression by way of realizing suitable internship opportunities, placements as well as be absorbed by prestigious institutions of higher learning for undertaking Master’s and other programs at the post- graduate level. The committee is managed by a team of desiccated faculty members and 15-20 student leaders who are elected by the students and represent the different courses running in the college. The committee organises multifarious activities around the year for the personal and professional growth of the students of different streams. They are mostly generic but some are also course specific. Some of the activities are :

Workshops/interactive talks on:

  • Resume writing
  • ‘Soft skills’ and ‘communication skills’
  • Career prospects
  • Grooming and personality development
  • How to be an entrepreneur

The committee has several social media platforms to connect with the students on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Over the years ‘Eminence’ has collaborated with many organizations for achieving its objectives. The students are registered in the DU portal called ‘Internshala’ and the Ministry of Labour and employment for seeking internships and short-term courses. The alumni of the college working in different organisations are a tremendous resource and are invited to interact with the students and give tips on placements and for enrolment in higher studies. A highlight of the committee is the organization of a ‘Placement fair’ or ‘Career expo’ which has seen increasing participation of students and companies/NGOs etc. leading to a very meaningful interaction. Nutribox, Stubborn factory, Bureau Veritas testing lab, and many such organizations have participated in the annual fair which is held in the college premises in the month of February or March. The committee further collects data regarding placements from outgoing students for the purpose of accreditation. An employer database is also maintained to keep a connect with prospective employers. The committee maintains visibility on social media and posts news related to events regarding workshops, career opportunities, job fairs in other academic institutions, and information related to the Central placement cell of DU. The Placement cell has matured over the years and aspires to build an interface between academia and industry/ community by instilling within the student body a passion to make education productive and be a financially independent professional to strengthen the brand image of the Institute of Home Economics.
