With the vision to become an environmentally conscious educational institute and work for
conservation of environment, the college has taken various sustainability initiatives to
develop responsible behaviour and environmental ethics amongst students, staff and
community for augmenting sustainable development. These initiatives have been integrated
in the daily working of college and course curriculum through the practice 4 R’s of waste
management i.e. refusing, reducing, reusing and recycling.
The college has collaborated with various organizations which are working extensively in the
field of waste management and environmental protection, such as Indian Pollution Control
Association, Green Peace, Tears of Earth, Development Alternatives, TERI and World
Wildlife Fund (WWF India), for managing the waste generated in its premises. A number of
workshops, seminars, and campaigns have been organized by the college time and again to
sensitize students and staff about issues pertaining to problems of waste management and
need for adoption of sustainable waste management.
Installation of AerobinsAerobins are innovative organic recycling systems which help
in solid waste management by converting organic waste into nutrient rich compost in a
clean and eco-friendly manner. As part of project SORT, Aerobins has been installed in
the premises by the joint efforts of the Environment & Community Outreach Committee
and the Department of RMDA in collaboration with the Indian Pollution Control
Association (IPCA). The college aims to maximize use of resources through waste
minimization, which results in decreased environmental pollution and reduced pressure
on landfill sites. The main objective this project is to motivate students and staff for
qualitative segregation of waste in order to increase the recycling rate of waste material
generated in college premises.
Each department of the college is instructed to segregate organic waste, paper waste and
plastic waste at source. Student volunteers have been assigned duties to look after and
enforce implementation of waste segregation at source in college premises. The organic
waste is collected from all the departments and canteen and is being converted into
organic manure using Aerobins.
