The Department of Home Science offers Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition. The aim is to train a cadre of professionals who would work as dieticians, nutrition consultants, and public health nutritionists. The PGDDPHN programme is a one-year course divided into two-semesters. A student is required to complete 50 credits for the completion of course and the award of degree. A three-month internship in a tertiary, multispecialty, minimum hundred bedded hospital with a Dietetics department is compulsory at the end of the course, for successful completion and for award of Diploma by the University.
Programme Specific Eligibility
Candidates seeking admission to one year PG Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition must have passed B.Sc. Home Science (Pass/ Hons.) or B.Sc. Food Technology (Hons.), B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc. Biochemistry, B.Sc., Nursing, MBBS, B.Sc. Life Sciences examination of the University of Delhi or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto and fulfil the eligibility listed below:
B.Sc. Home Science (Pass/Hons.) / B.Sc. (Hons.) Food Technology/ B.Sc. Microbiology/ B.Sc. Biochemistry/ B.Sc. Nursing / MBBS/ B.Sc. Life Sciences 55% or above marks in the overall aggregate and 50% or above marks in any four of
the following subjects:
Human Physiology
Nutritional Biochemistry
Food and Nutrition
Nutrition in Life Cycle
Therapeutic Nutrition
Public Health Nutrition
Food Microbiology
Institutional Food Management
The selection of candidates for admission to the course will be merit based in the order of categories listed below:
Category I: 70% and above marks in aggregate or equivalent grade point of B.Sc./ MBBS from University of Delhi.
Category II: 70% and above marks in aggregate or equivalent grade point of B.Sc./MBBS from other Universities recognized by University of Delhi as equivalent.
Category III: 60-69.9% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade point of B.Sc./MBBS from University of Delhi
Category IV: 60-69.9% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade point of B.Sc./MBBS from other Universities recognized by University of Delhi as equivalent.
Category V: 55-59.9% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade point of B.Sc./MBBS from University of Delhi.
Category VI: 55-59.9% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade point of B.Sc./MBBS from other Universities recognized by University of Delhi as equivalent.
NOTE: Only when a category is exhausted, will the candidates from the next category be considered. The seats will be filled in the above order of CATEGORIES only.
Programme Objectives
To understand fundamentals of human physiology, food microbiology and nutritional biochemistry in relation to health and disease.
To develop understanding about nutrition in disease management, its prevention through various government programmes and policies.
To develop skills in food management for entrepreneurship.
To apply acquired skills in diet therapy, food service management, nutrition/health education and scientific writing.
To apply the principles of medical nutrition therapy and food service management in a hospital set up.
