Enabling Unit, Institute of Home Economics

With the intention of ensuring inclusion, the Institute of Home Economics has constituted an Enabling Unit (EU), which aims to provide accessible means and create barrier-free environment for students with disabilities enrolled in the College. The Enabling unit strives to cater to the needs of students with disabilities enrolled in various courses in the college. This unit ensures the implementation of all welfare schemes notified by university of Delhi such as reservation and relaxation for students with disability/ies in admission process, facilitates admission of students with disabilities in various courses at college; ensures fee waiving as per university rules, provides regular guidance and counseling to individuals with disabilities; and organizes orientation and sensitization on several aspects concerning disability; as well as coordinates with teachers for ensuring reasonable accommodations in the curriculum for students with disabilities as suggested by RPwDA (2016). In compliance with accessibility provisions, the unit keeps striving to make the infrastructure of the college accessible for the individuals with permanent and temporary disabilities. Several events are organized every year such as Orientation programme to make students aware of the various provisions schemes, scholarships and other beneficiary programmes of Delhi University for students with disability/ies. Special days are observed with interactive sessions such as International White Cane day and International Disability Day besides creating awareness of provisions related to Right of Persons with Disabilities with respect to curriculum and examinations. Individualized support, group counselling is also done to discuss their academic progress and ensure their social inclusion.

The Equal Opportunity Cell, Institute of Home Economics

The Equal Opportunity Cell was established by the University of Delhi on 27th June, 2006 to address the issues related to students belonging to Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe, Other Backward Caste and minorities and the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on a continual basis. Inculcating respect for diversity within the college has always been an endeavour of the Institute of Home Economics. To put this into action, the college has a duly constituted Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC), the main objective of which is to empower all students (SC/ST/OBC/minorities and persons with disabilities) to participate fully in the academic, intellectual, social and cultural life of University on an equal basis. The unit sincerely attempts to ensure the implementation of policies and programmes issued by the government for various disadvantaged groups from time to time. Regular guidance and counselling with respect to academic, financial, social and other matters is provided to the students.
